On the Mark Racing, founded in 2005 by Texas thoroughbred entrepreneurs Jack Shelton and Jake Phillips, was specifically formed with the principal of joining together horse racing enthusiast and enabling them to pool their interest into an actively managed co-ownership group. Being part of a group allows for all the benefits and excitement of racehorse ownership while minimizing the overall risk of owning a race horse by oneself. “We wanted to create a group of racing enthusiast that could all participate and learn about the “Greatest Game” to the extent they each want to become involved,” says Shelton. On the Mark Racing claimed its first horse, Mav Cat at the 2005 Lone Star Park meet. Continuing to expand into other facets of horse ownership On the Mark Racing currently has interest in broodmares, yearlings, and has won races at Lone Star Park, Retama Park, Remington Park, and Oaklawn Park.

Providing a simple co-ownership plan, while keeping cost low is the foundation for On the Mark Racing. With no additional mark-ups or fees built into our plan, On the Mark Racing is committed to seeing its racing interest prosper. “It’s all about making the experience fun and rewarding for our partners,” says Shelton. As race managers and as owners ourselves, we manage the racing interest of the entire group to maximize the potential for all our co-owners and hope the experience of perhaps owning a race horse for the first time is a rewarding one.

All co-owners share in the overall cost of ownership and all expenses based on their percentage ownership in the group. By pooling our funds and drawing on the overall experience of the group we create broad synergies and an overall enhanced experience and enjoyment for the group as a whole.

Scoville heads to post a winner

On the Mark Racing has achieved a 30% lifetime win percentage lifetime. “This has been a remarkable experience”, says Shelton. “Our win percentage has been quite amazing; we have done better than most racing groups similar to ours”. While we tend to be aggressive where we spot horses we have also enjoyed having several Stakes Horses from our claiming group.
