News Release: March 15, 2006On the Mark Racing forms a General Partnership with the purpose of claiming thoroughbred race horses at the upcoming Lone Star meet in Grand Prairie, Texas. Formed in 2005, by horse racing enthusiast Jack Shelton and Jacob Phillips, On the Mark Racing will use talented Texas based John Locke, DVM as trainer. John will also serve as a Managing Partner assisting in overall selection and management of On the Mark’s stable of talented runners. Recently finishing 2nd in number of wins at the 2005 / 2006 Sam Houston meet, John brings a wealth of talent and knowledge to On the Mark Racing
On the Mark Racing will seek to claim several racing prospects during the upcoming 2006 Lone Star Race meet. “Owning and investing in thoroughbreds has been a dream of mine since 2000 when we purchased our first filly; multiple winner Miner’s Lady in partnership with Triple B Racing” say Racing Manager Jack Shelton. Combining with former Sam Houston Assistant Clerk of Scales Jacob Phillips to form On the Mark Racing in 2005, the group raced runners Mav Cat and Invisible Cat at the 2005 Lone Star meet.
“We are coming back bigger and better”, said Shelton of the groups plans in 2006. "Last year we stayed at the 10,000 claiming level. This year, with the interest we have so far, we hope to have two runners in the stable at 15,000 claiming levels. This will definitely give us more opportunities to pick talented runners and compete at a higher level in the meet than last year. "
Interests are still available in the group which intends to raise $30,000 to fund this year’s partnership groups. Minimum Investments start at $1,000 for a 3% share plus 1st quarter expenses of approximately $400. All partners must be licensed by TRC. “All our partners will participate and be involved”, says Shelton, “This is what sets us apart from other racing groups. We are here for the enjoyment of the sport and to educate the group’s members. We take no additional profit or fees other than the percentage we own”.
On the Mark also has interest in broodmare partnerships available. Recently purchasing the unraced mare Fahrenheit at the Texas Mixed Sale, On the Mark hopes to take advantage of the great opportunities in Texas that will be created by the addition of VLT’s at Texas Tracks and the expected increase in breeder’s incentive awards and higher purses expected if VLT’s are passed by the State Legislature for Texas tracks.
Fahrenheit; out of the Stakes winner Tammi’s Pal and by up and coming hot young sire Stormin Fever; provides an excellent breeding opportunity. A $100,000 plus yearling at the 2003 Keeneland Yearling sale; Fahrenheit will be sent to Midway Road at Lanes End. Watch for Fahrenheit’s foal’s to Heat up the tracks soon.
